How to setup L2TP VPN for Ubuntu in Apache CloudStack

In this guide, we will walk you through how to configure a Remote Access VPN connection to your Apache CloudStack environment using Ubuntu. This will allow you to securely access your virtual machines and resources from anywhere with an internet connection.

Prerequisites:

  • An Ubuntu system with internet access.
  • A CloudStack account with a network offering that supports Remote Access VPN.
  • The public IP address and pre-shared key for your VPN

Follow the below steps to setup L2TP/IPSec VPN:

Step – 1:

Open a terminal window and run the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nm-l2tp/network-manager-l2tp

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install network-manager-l2tp-gnome

sudo reboot

  • This will install the necessary software to manage L2TP VPN connections.

    Step-2:

– Select VPN Settings (or) Settings   –>  Network  –> VPN .

Step 3:

– Select   Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) .

Step -4 :

  • Enter the details.

Step -5 :

  • Check the Enable IPsec tunnel to L2TP host checkbox and enter the Pre-shared key and Click Apply button.

Step -6:

  •   Check the MSCHAP2 checkbox and click Apply.

Step-7:

  • Select Add and the VPN will be created.
